You can delete your secrets and posts without deleting your entire account. This guide explains how to remove specific data while keeping your Secrese account active and functional. This flexibility allows you to manage your content exactly the way you want, removing only what you choose to delete while maintaining your account, connections, and other data.
Important: Individual data deletion is immediate and permanent. Deleted secrets cannot be recovered. Please ensure you truly want to delete the data before confirming the deletion.
What Data Can You Delete?
Secrese provides you with complete control over your content. You can delete specific pieces of data individually without affecting your account or other data. The following types of data can be deleted individually:
Individual Secrets: You can delete any specific secret that you have created. This allows you to remove content that you no longer want to keep without affecting other content. Simply navigate to the secret you want to delete and use the delete option.
Multiple Secrets at Once: If you want to clean up multiple pieces of content simultaneously, Secrese allows you to select multiple secrets and delete them in a single action. This is useful when you want to remove several related items or perform bulk cleanup of old content.
Received Secrets: You have complete control over secrets that others have shared with you. You can delete received secrets from your account at any time. Note that deleting a received secret only removes it from your account; the sender and other recipients will still have their copies.
How to Delete Individual Secrets
Deleting a single secret is a straightforward process that takes just a few taps. Here's how you can remove an individual secret from your account:
First, open the Secrese app on your Android device and navigate to the secret you want to delete. You can find your secrets in the home view or in your "My Secrets" section. Once you locate the secret you want to remove, tap on it to open the detailed view where you can read its full content.
In the detail view, you'll see a delete icon (typically represented by a trash can or bin icon) in the top right corner of the screen. Tap this icon to initiate the deletion process. The app will display a confirmation dialog asking you to confirm that you want to delete this secret.
This confirmation step is important because deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Review the confirmation message carefully, and if you're sure you want to proceed, tap the confirm button. The secret will be immediately and permanently deleted from your device. There is no recovery option, so make sure this is what you want before confirming.
How to Delete Multiple Secrets
If you have several secrets that you want to delete, you don't need to delete them one by one. Secrese provides a convenient way to select and delete multiple secrets simultaneously, making bulk deletion quick and efficient.
To delete multiple secrets at once, start by opening the Secrese app and navigating to your home view or the "My Secrets" view where your secrets are displayed. To enter selection mode, long-press (press and hold) on any secret in the list. This will activate the multi-select mode, and you'll see that the secret you pressed is now selected, typically indicated by a checkmark or highlight.
While in selection mode, you can tap on additional secrets to add them to your selection. Each tap will toggle the selection state of that secret, allowing you to select as many secrets as you want to delete. Take your time to carefully select all the secrets you want to remove.
Once you've selected all the secrets you want to delete, look for the delete button that appears at the top of the screen (usually represented by a trash icon). Tap this button to initiate the deletion process. The app will show you a confirmation dialog indicating how many secrets you're about to delete. Review this information carefully, and if you're certain you want to proceed, confirm the deletion. All selected secrets will be permanently deleted from your device immediately.
How to Delete Received Secrets
Secrets that you have received from other users can also be deleted from your account at any time. You have complete control over what content remains in your account, including content that others have shared with you.
The process for deleting received secrets is similar to deleting your own secrets. Open the Secrese app and navigate to the received secret you want to delete. You can find received secrets in your inbox or received items section. Tap on the secret to open its detail view.
In the detail view, you'll see a delete icon (trash can icon) in the top right corner. Tap this icon to start the deletion process. A confirmation dialog will appear asking you to confirm that you want to delete this received secret.
It's important to understand that when you delete a received secret, you're only removing it from your own account. The sender and any other recipients will still have their copies of the secret. This gives everyone independent control over their own copy of shared content. Once you confirm the deletion, the received secret will be permanently removed from your account immediately.
Data Deletion Details
When you delete secrets or posts through the methods described above, several important things happen. Understanding these details will help you make informed decisions about data deletion:
Immediate Deletion from Servers: When you delete data, it is immediately and permanently removed from our servers. There is no recovery period or backup that we maintain. Once you confirm deletion, the data is gone from our systems instantly. This ensures your privacy and gives you complete control, but it also means you cannot undo the deletion.
No Recovery Possible: Because deletion is immediate and permanent, we cannot recover deleted secrets for you. Before you delete any content, make sure you have copies of anything you might need in the future. We recommend exporting or backing up important content before deletion if you think you might need it later.
Account Remains Active: When you delete individual secrets or even all your secrets, your account remains fully active and functional. Your profile, account settings, connections, and other account-related data are not affected. You can continue using the app normally, create new secrets, and interact with other users.
Local Data Considerations: While deleting secrets removes them from our servers, encrypted data that was stored locally on your device is not automatically deleted. Each secret is encrypted and stored on your device for access even when you're offline. To remove this local encrypted data, you need to manually clear the app's data through your device settings (usually found in Settings → Apps → Secrese → Storage → Clear Data) or uninstall the app.
Shared Content: If you delete a secret that you previously shared with other users, it will be removed from our servers, but the recipients who already received the secret will still have their copies on their devices. Secrese uses end-to-end encryption, which means once content is shared, each user has their own encrypted copy. Deleting your copy doesn't affect other users' copies.
Data Deletion vs Account Deletion
It's important to understand the difference between deleting individual data (as described on this page) and deleting your entire account. These are two separate processes with very different outcomes, and choosing the right one depends on your specific needs.
Data Deletion (Individual Content Deletion): This process, described on this page, allows you to delete specific secrets or posts from your account. You can remove individual items one at a time, select multiple items to delete together, or even delete all your secrets at once. The key benefit of this approach is that your account remains completely active and functional. You can continue using the app, accessing your connections, creating new content, and using all features as normal. Deletion is immediate and permanent—there's no waiting period, and deleted content cannot be recovered. This is ideal when you want to clean up old content, remove specific items you no longer need, or start fresh with your content while keeping your account and all its associated features.
Account Deletion: In contrast, account deletion is a much more comprehensive process that removes your entire Secrese account and all associated data. This includes not just your secrets and posts, but also your account information, profile, connections with other users, settings, and all other account-related data. When you request account deletion, your account enters a 30-day grace period during which your account is disabled but not yet permanently deleted. During this grace period, you cannot use the app or access any of its features. However, if you change your mind, you can cancel the deletion request by simply logging back into your account before the grace period expires. After the 30-day period ends, your account and all data are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. This option is intended for users who want to completely leave the Secrese platform and remove all traces of their account.
Choosing Between the Two: If you want to remove specific content but continue using Secrese, use the data deletion methods described on this page. If you want to permanently leave Secrese and remove all your data including your account, use the account deletion process.
